About Usha Chhatlani

With over 20 years of experience in the medical field, I specialize in psychiatry, focusing on a wide range of mental health conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, and substance-related disorders. My approach to patient care is rooted in active listening and building trust, creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for my patients to express themselves openly.

I have extensive experience in treating various psychiatric conditions, with particular expertise in personality disorders, addiction and substance abuse, and psychotic disorders.

My passion for education extends beyond patient care. I regularly work with students from the University of Iowa and teach law students at Drake University about mental health and its interface with the legal system. I am also involved with the “Indian Physicians of Iowa” group, focusing on mentoring, volunteering, and serving our local community.

I am a member of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry, the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and the Iowa Psychiatric Society. These affiliations allow me to stay current with the latest developments in psychiatric care and contribute to the advancement of mental health treatment.

In my personal time, I enjoy cooking various cuisines with my children and gardening with my husband. My family, including our two daughters and our dog, loves to travel and explore new places together.
